That brick effect. Wonderful. How did you achieve this ?

Thanks guys.

@glorfindel, the church had a black undercoat, base coat of Rakarth flesh (gw), heavy dry brush of terracotta (vallejo game colour), light dry brush of gory blood (vgc) and then a watered down wash of agrax earth shade (gw). But really the model helps a lot, it wass Jr miniatures but not sure who sells it now.

JR minis was purchased and reopened, for the record. If not already available it will be again soon.

Thanks for the update Roberto. I was very impressed with the finished effect for the brick building and will try your colour combination. It really looks as though you have had to pick out individual bricks !

Thanks again,

Phil

Hi Phil, I forgot to say I gave it a very light dry brush with the the lightest shade of the new gw greys, just to finish off.

Love the buildings - sat looking at the ruined walls and gutted i threw mine away years back when i thought i was done with epic :gah

cant remember the name of the technique for weathering buildings with oil paints but would look real good on the grey colours

take a 3 or 4 oil paint colours. put random dots over the building walls then with a flat soft brush load with thinners and run the brush straight down the buildng from top to bottom

the effect is to turn the oil into a wash that looks like weather and polution discolouration

the best part is if you overdo it you can just keep repeating the brush down with more thinners till you get the staining you like or was off completeley and also get the colours to merge

have done this on a number of buildings through the years and gives a nice finish to old stonework and works like a filter just adding a fine tint to the surface.

stinks for days unless you can get some non odour thinners.

Oil filters. This isn't a bad introduction to the technique.

Here's another one
