So I've decided to bash to bunch of imperial ruined bulidings for introducing some of my board gaming group into Epic in it's various forms.

I've built up a couple of examples which I think have some detail but aren't necessarily realistic. I feel if I included enough rubble and textture to make it realistic it would have been less usuable. So I suppose you could say they are kind a like caricatures of what I think ruined buildings would look like.

Anyway, as you can see I'm filling in large gaps between wall sections and tiled floors etc. using green stuff as it's what I have knocking around. It works perfecly fine but it's actually wuite hard work making the quantities I need to do the filling. Does anyone have an alternative I can use tat's hard wearing and won't crack (e.g. not polyfilla), and is maybe pre-made?

good use of those sandbags from leven minis

perhaps throw a few broken girders/i-beams sticking out from under the 2nd floor? just give it that destroyed appearance even more

I imagine that milliput is cheaper by weight but it's not as easy / tidy to use as green stuff.

Have you thought of using the Vallejo Grey Pumice to add texture? I love it, I usually put it on top of cured green stuff to transition between bits of terrain. I find it is easier to get a rough rubble look with it than putting sand / grit on top of green stuff.

What kind of textured plasticard are you using for the floor there?

Thanks for the postive comments, guys.

Jimmy, I was planning on having broken girders stuck to the under side of the floors, jutting out to give the broken floors a better look.

NoisyAssassin, There's still quite a few finishing touches to be applied before any paint gets applied, and still 3 more bases to make up before I'll start batching them.

Stormwind, I've never seen the Grey Pummice from Vallejo. I'm not 100% about the finished texture to paint directly onto but it could work as a material to fill gaps and bulk out the base of rubble piles. It would be much better on my hands for sure. I have crusty calloused hands from weight lifting and building work but mixing out and rolling green stuff in big batches can make my hands really sore at times.

Edit: I've just opened a new bacth of green stuff and it's so much easier to mix and roll. The old stuff I had been using must have been crappy and part cured.

Looking good! You could try mixing GS with white milliput. Makes a very agreeable combination of malleability strength, and hardness.

I can't recommend the Vallejo Grey Pumice enough. As for painting it, I use the Vallejo brush on black Primer but I only do smaller projects, nothing really huge.

There are other Vallejo products that are already coloured sand or mud or dirt, too.

Here's a quick progress shot of one of the previously shown buildings. It's just had a sealant coat of watered down PVA to make the sand rock hard. I've nearly finished a second and the third should follow soon after that.

DAS or similar air drying clay could be a cheap alternative to GS that doesn't need mixing, if you don't need the detail of GS.

I bought the textured plastic sheets some time ago from Atenociti's Workshop (https://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/)

Loads of cool stuff for scratch building.

A quick update on the three ruined imperial buildings in production. There's still some finishing touches that are need to finish them off but will likely complete them this week.

Very cool ruins, Vanguard use to do some nice lazer cut mdf stuff that was great to base and add rubble to !

Keep up the great work and look forward to the finished painted items ;)
