This tread contains my current version of Sisters of Battle army list, I will be trying to test and release it. The orders of the Inquisition have three arms of control the Xenos, Malleus and Hereticus. Sisters of Battle lie within the Hereticus arm of the Inquisition being able to deploy sizable forces within the 40k universe.

Statement of theme:
This list covers the Orders Militant convents of Sanctorum and Prioris, the military arm of the Ecclesiarchy which perform wars of faith reactions to uprisings of heresy on imperial worlds. These convents are organized and run by a single Canoness Superior supported by the Orders of Hospitaller - Surgeons, physicians and Nurses, Dialogous - Scholars dealing with languages and translation, Famulous - Diplomats, chamberlains and advisors for Imperial noble families.

Sisters of Battle formations:
The army list covers all the available units in a single convent and supported by the Inquisition Hereticus units deployed on campaign.

I combined this one from a bit ago and another. For the basic need of unique WEs. Your list is the main list used, just another had WEs that fit so I combined them. This is the list I will be using just because I dont play tourneys, and converting WEs is one of the best things of Epic

One concern. The Retributors vs. the standard Battle Sister.

A formation of 6 Retributors engaging (and with 15cm guns and a FF3+ they're clearly something you want in firefight range) will average 4 hits and fire at range 15.

A formation of Battle Sisters (with 30cm guns and FF4+ but also being at 3 models larger from two extra stands and an extra rhino) is better at longer ranges (30cm gun) but also averages just the same number of hits in an engagement as 8 attacks on 4+ is also 4 hits.

For formations that could often be Fearless, and just general behaviour of blast markers, the extra models in the standard Mission formation seems better than the equally costed Retribution.

Am I missing something?

Please add the Sisters of Battle war engines back in! - the Emperor's Chapel and Cathedral of Purification from Zombo's old Sisters of Battle list.

I know of at least 3 people who have converted models for them in their sisters of battle armies e.g. Captain Senoris:

Image

They may not have had 40k rules, but so what? We know the Sisters fight alongside giant tracked cathedrals:

Image

It seems bad form for the official SoB list going forward to lack these units when they've been in the list under development for 5 years or so, so people have become used to them and produce conversions.

I've seen people comment they are going to stick with using Zombo's older, more extensively tested, sisters list instead of yours because it has these WE in while yours currently doesn't and this is my position too. I hope you reconsider and add them back in, for what others want and getting more playtesters, even if you don't like the idea of them that much yourself for whatever reason.

The reason I'm not fond of the chapel and cathedral is they are too overpowered. But I see why people like them, firstly with the chapels special rules include RA, fearless, inv save and transport, I would propose dropping the inv save and if their transports making them an upgrade (maybe). Secondly the firepower of the melta cannons then provide an extra two MW firefight giving additional four attacks in an engagement and don't see the point of the exorcist launcher, maybe replace it with heavy bolters or the inferno cannons on the chathedral. So making it a fearless formation with six attacks CC/FF plus four MW FF and some nasty shooting of 6BP of ignore cover barrage for a 175 each so without a points increase I don't think their balanced.
As for the cathedral it has some of the same problems (although not as much as the chapel), the inv save does not need to be in there and the inspiring maybe not also the transport option has similar problems as the chapel. Its shooting is fine and void shields fine but maybe the AA needs a sight reduce in range.

The role those two formations play on the battle is different, the retributors are close support and specialized for infantry in terrain/cover and missions for general use.
This list has lots of specialized units based for wars of faith, I hope that answers your question.

Yeah complete what he said.
I'm going to keep with Zombos list simply for them.

Ha, always feels nice when I see those models get shared around.

I too was slightly bummed when I saw that you'd removed the Chapels/Cathedrals but having played the old list quite a bit those multi-meltas were indeed quite nasty and the Inv save on the Cathedral was a bit wonky given the Voids and R/A. If you can fit them into the list in some form I would be happy to test them out for you, unfortunately I can't promise a lot of testing as my group has gone somewhat dormant to play all sorts of cool boardgames!

Interested in what you've done so far, swapping the weapon load out of standard Sisters with Retributors will take some getting used to. Keep up the good work!

Glad to see the Chapels and Cathedral back in. They remain a challenge to use as transport options being Init 2+, and war engines in a different formation. The Chapels loosing almost all of their AT capability is a pretty large leap for 350 points. Happy to see them toned down if that is what it takes.

Was the loss of Walker for the Repressor (APC) deliberate? They do have that large dozer blade and are "used by the Adepta Sororitas as an infantry transport during intense urban battles." Would go nicely with the Ignore Cover on the AP4+ shot. But they don't get Ignore Cover in fire-fight and only sit on FF5+ otherwise.

Yeah the transport option is a problem whether its necessary I wonder, any formation with the faithful rule wouldn't be able to use it and like you say 2+ int makes it unusable. However put a formation of arco-flagellants in the chapel or redemptionists the cathedral and they become nasty but expensive formation.
As for the chapels losing their AT shots I feel it fits the nature of the list better and fits their points cost as well.

Well sort of but didn't ready think it was necessary but your argument has sold me, and I think it goes with the theme of the list and an advantage in SoBs preferred battle ground. So Will change that.

Out of interest, why is Initiative 2+ unusable? It's a sentiment I've seen in a few places for a few different armies. Is it just in relation to the Init1+ transport options?

And...well...my Guard get along fine with it.

Unusable was the wrong word I mean counterproductive for the reasons I gave before.

I'm not in the un-useable camp. Most of the formations I use are Init 2+.

The issue here is that they are a war engine formation that carry another formation inside. The Sisters of Battle have lots of Init 1+ formations that could be transported. But they would only be activating on the Init 2+ of the transports. You also lose an activation because the formation is inside the war-engine. To get the passengers out actively the war-engine needs to undertake the same activation, shoot or engage.
