If you do cut through windows, those who want to could glue a sheet of semi translucent plastic whatever on the inside and create all sorts of nice effects in notime. I'm thinking lighting even.

That's true.

I'd prefer cut through windows for that reason too.

Another issue with cut-through windows: That means having double-sided tiles with noticeably different designs on each side is essentially a no-no.

Which would make the kit less flexible, and make roof tiles more difficult to provide.

Not necessarily. As long as whatever you call the fittings of the windows protrude further or equally to the rest of the gubbins, you are allright.

You would be okay with a "roof" tile with lots of holes in it where the windows are on the other side?

I would also prefer cut-through windows if possible.

It's most likely possible (we'll have to do a flow check to find out).

I'm just surprised people would prefer to have a less flexible kit, with less visual variety, which will expose (if you look closely) that there are no middle floors inside the buildings half way up each tile (unless you add extra ones yourself).

i prefer cut-though windows too. but yes, it limits the double sided-ness of the tiles.

Well, surprise is what keeps mankind moving forward.

You are absolutely right in terms of variety. I see that it would be hard to do anything meaningfully different on the "back" of the tile since the window layout would be the same with cut through windows. Most likely, you could find ways of varying the other bits and detail on that backside so as to create a more compelling variety within the theme (e.g. monks in space), but I get your point.

People are not "preferring less flexible kits". That is not a very constructive way of putting it. They, including myself, are preferring efficient methods for creating very good final results. There are two currencies in "The Hobby". One is money - you are right about that one. However, the other one is time. Maybe there is a third that has something to do with talent and energy, but I am not too sure about that one.

Perhaps "less variety" would have been a less controversial phrasing than "less variety".

I take your point about time; if everyone wants open windows, few people are going to have the time to cut all the windows out.

I'll mock up an open window version of the sprue...

Thoughts?

Three single-sided panels, one double-sided roof panel.

Again, designs not final!

I honestly much prefer there to be windows filled in on intact buildings and windows gone or broken for destroyed buildings. For me it's more efficient to build and paint for the exact same reasons I was extremely annoyed when the small walking robot was built with the eyes knocked out to see into the cockpit: I end up having to fill the hole. the problem here is that it forces me to take an extra step that's usually tedious depending on what on the reverse and use more materials to create a structure that doesn't look hollow.

I understand the sculptor on that one eventually filled in the eyes when he made the mk2. :)

My first thought is likewise to do filled-in windows... but most seem against that as they're not interested in painting terrain. They want to spray, brush, and play...?

My point exactly. :)

I mean you gotta do what sells, but I feel that it may end up the same as with the SWR eventually once people start using them.
