Thanks for the kind words! I had a lot of fun painting them.

To answer the one question: No there is no blending going on, I'm not that insane :-).

My current "formula":
o Assemble and base them on Flames of War bases (small bases for tanks, medium for SHV)
o Use white glue to glue sand on the base (GF9 fine grit IIRC).
o Spray Gray (using Armoury Gray primer)
o Do a very heavy drybrush using GW's Longbeard Grey
o Wash with thinned down Thaka Green (the old-style ink)
o Paint details Dark Grey (Eshin Grey), Brown (Beasty Brown) or Tan (Elf Flesh)
o Wash with thinned down Nuln Oil (new style ink)
At this point, I had planned on stopping, but decided they looked too "dark"
o A very very light drybrush of Longbeard Grey (on the non-detail parts)
o Followed by a quick touch-up of some of the Tan (Elf Flesh) details.

Just to give credit where credit is due. I stole the basic formula from Onyx's blog (and modified it somewhat).

Eeeek! October is already here!

Not a whole lot to show for this month. I spent most of my "painting time" assembling more epic miniatures. I'm going the wrong way :-).

I assembled and primed: 2 Shadowsword SHV tanks, 1 Baneblade SHV tank, 10 Leman Russ, 9 Chimeras, 6 Leman Russ Demolishers, 3 Hydras AA tanks & 3 Basilisk Self Propelled Artillery.

I still need to assemble, 4 Thunderbolt fighters & 4 Valkyries.

When I do the math in my head, it comes out to around 6675 points. So after I finish my Titans, I should be able to field a 10,000 point Steel Legions force.

I also painted some Blood Bowl Halflings this month, but they don't count...

Next month is pretty busy for me, but I hope to have some actual results!

Real life has sucker punched me, and I'm still reeling from the blow.

No updates this month. Hopefully something next month.

Sorry about the lack of updates. I updated my computer, and the image manipulation program didn't like the change. After much hacking, I finally got it work.

Good news: This tale is complete!

I finished doing the bases today (2 days into 2013).

I calculated the point cost, and it comes to 6,400 points worth of Steel Legion Imperial Guard.

1 Reg HQ     500
2 Mech Inf   800
2 Tank      1300
1 SHvy       500
2 Tank Sqd   350
1 HHound     125
3 Sniper      75
1 Ogryn       50
6 Flak       300
1 RRider     150
1 SS w/ Val  350
4 Art Bat   1000
1 Sent       100
3 SHvy       600
2 Thunder    300
Total       6400

Now onto the pictures (I've included a link to a larger version of the picture after each picture):

3 Regiments of Mechanized Infantry, the backbone of the Guard:
Blue Regiment (w/ attached sniper):

Yellow Regiment (w/ attached sniper):

Grey Regiment (w/ attached sniper):

Ogryn Security Detail (sorry about the blurriness, there's a better shot of them in the RR picutre):

A Division of Leman Russ:

A Second Division (w/ Commissar):

A Squadron of Rough Riders (you can also see the Ogryn better here):

StormShadow Super Heavy Tanks:

Sentinel Walkers:

Hydra Flak Tanks:

Basilik Self-Propelled Artillery:

Baneblade Super Heavy Tanks:

Hellhound Flame Tanks:

Demolisher Squadrons:

Stormtrooper Squadron with attached Valkryes:

Thunderbolt Squadron:

Another Thunderbolt Squadron:

Some shots of the whole army:

I bought some of these second hand off e-bay, as such, some of them are missing some pieces (snipers whose rifles had snapped off, baneblades missing secondary turrets and hatches). The most annoying was 3 of the Hydras. I'm not going to tell you what was wrong with them, I'll see if anyone can figure it out :-).

like it, especially the russes with all the extra details

I can't spot the issue with the hydras, unless it's something as obvious as missing dozer blades?

Post subject:  Re: ToEG 2012 - DarkWing's Imperial Guard

Thanks for all the kind words. They were a lot of fun to paint (although sometimes it felt like I'd never finish them all).

When I went to assemble my last three Hydra's, I glued the right turret on. I put a spot of glue to put the left one on. I then reached into the pile of turrets and discovered to my horror, I only had right turrets. I guess it was a badly packaged batch (someone out there must have a batch with only left turrets).

So three of the Hydra's have only right turrets. The first, I just tried to wedge a right turret on the left side (which is why the turret isn't elevated). The remaining two I ended up clipping off top/bottom ammo barrel so that it would fit. It looks much better than I originally thought it would.
